Transfer Students at Wayne Christian School

Making the Move: Is Now the Right Time?

If you’re considering a change in your child’s educational path, you’re not alone. Families choose to transfer to Wayne Christian School for various reasons, including a desire for a Christ-centered education, concerns about their current school environment, academic challenges, or simply a sense that God is leading them in a new direction.

Whether you’re moving to the Goldsboro area or seeking a fresh start at a local school, Wayne Christian School welcomes transfer students throughout the year. We understand that making this decision involves both excitement and uncertainty, and we’re here to support you throughout this transition.

Why Families Transfer to WCS

Every family’s story is unique, but we’ve heard common themes from parents who have made the move:

“We wanted our faith and our child’s education working together, not competing.” At WCS, Biblical truth isn’t an add-on; it’s woven into every subject. Parents tell us they appreciate knowing their values are being reinforced, not contradicted, throughout the school day.

“We wanted smaller class sizes and more individual attention.” With class sizes ranging from 20 to 23 students and teachers who genuinely know each child, transfer students quickly discover they’re not just another face in the crowd.

“Our child needed a fresh start.” Sometimes a new environment provides the reset a student needs, whether they’ve struggled socially, academically, or simply need to be in a community where they feel known and supported.

“The culture at their previous school was pulling them away from their faith.” Many parents share concerns about peer influence, worldview conflicts, or an environment that doesn’t support the values they’re teaching at home.

What Transfer Students Can Expect

A Welcoming Community

Your child won’t be the only new face on campus. We welcome transfer students regularly, and our community knows how to make newcomers feel at home. From the first day, teachers, staff, and current students work to ensure your child feels welcomed and included.

Academic Transition Support

We recognize that every school approaches curriculum differently. During the admissions process, we’ll review your child’s previous coursework and placement test results to ensure they’re positioned for success. Our teachers are experienced in helping transfer students catch up on any gaps while building on the strengths they bring from their previous school.

For students who require additional support, our SOAR Support Center offers individualized instruction in small group settings, ensuring that no child falls through the cracks during the transition.

Social Integration

Making new friends can feel daunting, but our close-knit community and wide range of activities help transfer students connect quickly. Whether through athletics (we offer eleven sports), fine arts programs, chapel, or simply the daily interactions in smaller class sizes, your child will have numerous opportunities to build meaningful friendships.

Many transfer families share that their children felt welcomed and connected far faster than they anticipated.

The Transfer Process: What You Need to Know

Transferring to WCS follows the same admissions process as new students, but we work with your timeline and circumstances:

  1. Start with a Visit. Schedule a campus tour by calling our Admissions Office at 919-735-5605, ext. 127. This gives your family the chance to experience WCS firsthand and ask specific questions about the transition.
  2. Submit Your Application. Your application packet includes:

Completed application form

Copies of report cards from the last two years (or transcripts for 8th grade and above)

All educational and diagnostic testing

Standardized test scores

Birth certificate copy

Pastoral recommendation

Teacher recommendation

$50 application fee

  1. Placement Testing Students in grades 1-12 complete a placement test covering reading, writing, and math (approximately 90 minutes). This helps us understand your child’s current academic level and ensure proper placement.
  2. Admissions Interview If we move forward with your application, we’ll schedule an interview with you and your child to answer questions, discuss how we can best serve your student’s needs, and ensure our school is a good fit for your family.
  3. Enrollment Once accepted, you’ll receive your enrollment packet online. A non-refundable $500 enrollment fee holds your child’s seat.

Addressing Common Transfer Concerns

“Will my child be behind academically?”

Our placement testing and experienced teachers ensure we understand where your child is academically. We’ll work with you to create a plan that addresses any gaps while building confidence. Transfer students thrive with the individualized attention they receive at WCS.

“Will the Biblical worldview approach be too different from what they’re used to?”

If your child is coming from a public school or a non-Christian environment, the integration of faith and learning may be new to them. Most transfer students adjust quickly and appreciate the consistency between what they learn at school and what they’re taught at home and church. Our teachers are skilled at meeting students where they are spiritually while encouraging growth.

“What if they don’t make friends?”

Our smaller environment means your child won’t get lost in the crowd. Teachers actively facilitate connections, and our community culture emphasizes the importance of welcoming others. We also encourage transfer students to get involved in activities, whether sports, fine arts, or clubs, where natural friendships form around shared interests.

“How do high school credits transfer?”

For high school transfers, we’ll conduct a thorough transcript evaluation to determine which credits transfer and how they apply toward graduation requirements. Our guidance office works closely with transfer students to map out their remaining coursework and ensure they stay on track for graduation.

Support for Transfer Families

The transition doesn’t end once your child starts classes. We continue to partner with transfer families through:

Regular communication between teachers and parents

Progress monitoring to ensure academic adjustment

Connection with other families through parent fellowship opportunities

Ongoing spiritual support through the chapel, Bible classes, and pastoral care

Financial Considerations

We want Christian education to be accessible for families considering a transfer to WCS. Tuition for the 2025-2026 school year is $9,800, with multiple payment plan options available.

Financial Assistance Options:

  • NC Opportunity Scholarship: State-funded grants of up to $7,400 based on income (applications typically open in February)
