Academic Policies

Video Placeholder

At Wayne Christian School, our academic policies reflect our commitment to excellence and our mission to partner with parents and churches in educating children from a Biblical worldview. These policies provide the framework for a structured and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically while developing wisdom and character.

Grading and Assessment

Grading Scale

WCS uses a standard grading scale across all grade levels:

  • A: 90-100
  • B: 80-89
  • C: 70-79
  • D: 60-69
  • F: Below 60

Report Cards and Progress Reports

Report cards are issued quarterly, providing families with a comprehensive view of their child’s academic progress, character development, and areas of growth. Mid-quarter progress reports are sent home to keep parents informed and allow time for course corrections when needed.

Assessment is more than just a grade; it’s an opportunity to celebrate growth, identify challenges early, and work together to help your child succeed.

Academic Recognition

Students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement are recognized through:

  • Honor Roll (3.5-3.99 GPA)
  • Principal’s List (4.0 GPA)
  • National Honor Society (High School, invitation-based)

Attendance Policy

Importance of Consistent Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to your child’s academic success and spiritual growth. When students are present, they benefit from direct instruction, class discussions, relationships with peers, and the community life that makes WCS a special place.

Attendance Requirements

  • Students are expected to attend all scheduled class days
  • After 10 absences in a semester, academic credit may be affected
  • Excessive tardiness (arriving after 7:45 AM) will be documented and addressed

Excused vs. Unexcused Absences

Excused absences include illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or school-sponsored activities. We ask that parents notify the school by 9:00 AM on the day of absence.

Unexcused absences occur when a student is absent without prior approval or a valid reason. We partner with families to address patterns of unexcused absences.

Make-Up Work

Students with excused absences will have the opportunity to make up missed work. Generally, students are given one day for each day absent to complete assignments. Teachers will work with families to create a reasonable plan for more extended absences.

Homework Philosophy

Homework at WCS serves to reinforce classroom learning, develop independent study skills, and prepare students for future academic challenges. We aim for homework that is purposeful, manageable, and age-appropriate.

Our Commitment to Integrity

Students are expected to:

  • Complete their own work honestly
  • Give proper credit when using others’ ideas or words
  • Refrain from cheating, plagiarism, or dishonest collaboration
  • Take responsibility for their actions

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but their duplicity destroys the unfaithful.” – Proverbs 11:3

Academic Integrity and Honor Code

At Wayne Christian School, we cultivate a culture of integrity rooted in Biblical principles. We believe that honesty, responsibility, and respect for others’ work are essential character qualities that honor God and prepare students for life beyond our walls.

Violations of academic integrity are taken seriously and may result in a zero on the assignment, parent conference, and disciplinary action depending on the severity and frequency of the offense.

Our Commitment to Integrity

Students are expected to:

  • Complete their own work honestly
  • Give proper credit when using others’ ideas or words
  • Refrain from cheating, plagiarism, or dishonest collaboration
  • Take responsibility for their actions

“The integrity of the upright guides them, but their duplicity destroys the unfaithful.” – Proverbs 11:3

Parent-Teacher Communication

Partnership with parents is at the heart of what we do. We’re committed to maintaining open lines of communication, celebrating successes together, and addressing challenges as they arise.

We encourage parents to reach out early when concerns arise. Our teachers genuinely care about your child and want to partner with you for their success.

Ways We Stay Connected

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Scheduled twice per year (fall and spring)
  • RenWeb/FACTS: Our online portal for grades, assignments, and attendance
  • Email and Phone: Teachers are available to answer questions and address concerns
  • Progress Reports: Mid-quarter updates to keep families informed

“Joe has a renewed passion for academics. The atmosphere where a Biblical worldview is being shared has assisted in creating this joy for Joe. Wayne Christian is a true blessing to our son!” – Maria, parent of a current student.

Academic Support Services

SOAR Support Center

For students who need additional academic support, our SOAR Support Center provides individualized instruction in small group settings. We focus on meeting each student where they are and equipping them with the necessary tools to succeed. Learn more about SOAR services on our SOAR Support Center page.

Tutoring

Additional tutoring may be available through our faculty or recommended outside resources. Contact your child’s teacher or building principal to discuss tutoring options.

Intervention and Student Success Plans

When a student is struggling academically, we work closely with parents to develop an intervention plan. This may include modified assignments, additional support time, or adjusted learning strategies to help the student regain their footing.

Technology Use

Technology is a valuable tool for learning when used wisely. All WCS students are expected to follow our Acceptable Use Policy, which includes:

Check

Using school-issued devices and platforms responsibly

Check

Accessing only approved websites and content

Check

Treating technology with care and respect

Check

Understanding that all school devices are monitored for safety

High school students are issued Chromebooks for school and home use. All technology use is monitored through GoGuardian to ensure a safe learning environment.

Testing and Assessments

Standardized Testing

WCS participates in annual standardized testing to assess student progress and ensure our curriculum meets high academic standards. Testing schedules and results are communicated directly to families.

Placement Testing

New students in grades 1-12 complete placement testing as part of the admissions process. This helps us understand each student’s academic strengths and place them in an appropriate setting for success.

Promotion and Retention

Promotion to the next grade level is based on successful completion of coursework, mastery of grade-level standards, and overall readiness. In rare cases where retention is being considered, the administration will work closely with parents to make the best decision for the child’s long-term success.
