Our History
A Legacy of Faith, Excellence, and Partnership
Since 1987, Wayne Christian School has been faithfully pursuing one mission: to partner with parents and churches in the education of children from a biblical worldview, impacting their world for Christ. What began as a vision to provide families in Wayne County with a Christ-centered educational option has grown into a thriving K-12 school serving hundreds of students, but our heart remains the same.
Where We Began
In 1987, a group of local church leaders and Christian families recognized a need in our community. They envisioned a school where children could receive excellent academics without separating faith from learning, a place where parents wouldn’t have to choose between educational quality and Biblical values. With that vision, Wayne Christian School opened its doors on Patetown Road in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
From the beginning, our founders established core principles that continue to guide us today: that God is the source of all truth, that parents bear the primary responsibility for their children’s education, and that the local church plays a vital role in discipling the next generation. These weren’t just lofty ideals; they became the foundation of everything we do.
Our school motto, “In pursuit of wisdom and knowledge,” reflects this dual commitment. We’ve never believed that academic excellence and spiritual formation are separate pursuits. Instead, they’re beautifully intertwined when Christ is at the center of learning.
Growing with Purpose
Over the decades, Wayne Christian School has experienced significant growth not for growth’s sake, but in response to families seeking a Christ-centered educational partnership. What started as a small elementary school has expanded to serve students from preschool through twelfth grade.
Each stage of growth has been marked by God’s faithfulness and the commitment of our school community. Families who enrolled their oldest children in our early years program eventually brought in their younger siblings. Students who graduated returned to teach and serve as staff. Local churches continued to support our mission through prayer, resources, and partnership.
As our student body grew, so did our facilities and programs. Our beautiful 12,000 square-foot preschool center now welcomes our youngest learners. Our elementary, middle, and high school divisions each offer age-appropriate academics within a supportive Christian community. Most recently, we celebrated the completion of our high school building, a milestone that represents both our growth and our ongoing commitment to preparing students for their next steps.
Staying True to Our Mission
Through every season of growth and change, we’ve remained committed to the mission established in 1987. Our approach hasn’t changed: we exist to assist Christian families, not to replace the God-given role of parents. We recognize that discipleship happens first in the home and through the local church. Our calling is to come alongside families during the school day, reinforcing the faith and values they are teaching at home.
This partnership approach is woven throughout our school culture. From our application process to daily classroom instruction, from athletic programs to chapel services, we’re intentional about supporting, not supplanting, parents and churches in the spiritual formation of students.
The Biblical worldview emphasis that defines Wayne Christian School isn’t just about teaching Bible classes (though we cherish that time). It’s about helping students see all of life through the lens of Scripture. Whether studying mathematics, literature, science, or history, our teachers help students discover how God’s truth applies to every subject and every situation they’ll face.
Led with Vision
Over the years, Wayne Christian School has been blessed with dedicated leadership administrators, teachers, board members, and staff who view their roles as ministry, not merely employment. Our School Board, comprising local pastors, physicians, educators, and community leaders, provides wise governance grounded in prayer and a commitment to our founding purpose.
Today, our leadership team includes Head of School Luis Miranda and Chief Academic Officer Adam Thomas, along with principals and administrators who bring both expertise and genuine care for students and families. Our faculty and staff represent the heart of Wayne Christian School – men and women who don’t just teach subjects, but invest in lives, pray for their students by name, and model what it means to follow Christ in everyday life.
A Community That Feels Like Family
Perhaps the most significant part of our history isn’t captured in building projects or enrollment numbers, it’s in the relationships formed and the lives changed. Parents tell us again and again that what makes Wayne Christian School special is the sense of community, the way students are known and loved, and the genuine partnership between home and school.
“Joe has a renewed passion for academics. The atmosphere where a Biblical worldview is being shared has assisted in creating this joy for Joe. Wayne Christian is a true blessing to our son!”
– Maria, parent of a current student
Stories like Maria’s have been repeated across nearly four decades. Students who felt lost elsewhere have found their place here. Athletes have discovered that competition can be a means of glorifying God. Artists have learned to use their talents for worship. Scholars have been challenged to pursue excellence for something greater than themselves.
Our alumni are now serving as missionaries, pastors, teachers, doctors, business leaders, and parents living out the mission we’ve pursued together since 1987.
Looking Forward
As we look to the future, we do so with gratitude for God’s faithfulness throughout our history and with confidence in His continued provision. The needs of families and the challenges facing young people may differ from those they faced in 1987. Still, the truth of God’s Word remains constant, and the calling to partner with parents in Christ-centered education remains as vital as ever.
We’re excited about the students who will walk our hallways in the years to come – the future leaders, servants, and disciples that God will raise through this ministry. We’re committed to continuing the legacy established by our founders while adapting to serve families well in every generation.
Our history is still being written, one student at a time, one family at a time, one year at a time. And through it all, we remain committed to pursuing wisdom and knowledge, partnering with you to make a lasting impact for Christ.
