Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions About WCS
What makes Wayne Christian School different from other private schools? + −
At Wayne Christian School, we don’t just teach subjects; we teach students to view everything through a Biblical lens. Since 1987, our mission has been to partner with parents and churches in educating children from a Biblical worldview so they can impact their world for Christ. This isn’t just a tagline for us; it’s woven into every classroom conversation, every problem-solving moment, and every relationship on campus.
Our teachers aren’t just instructors, they’re mentors who genuinely know and love your child. With class sizes averaging 20-23 students in elementary grades, your child won’t be just a number. They’ll be known, encouraged, and challenged to grow academically, spiritually, and personally.
What denomination is Wayne Christian School affiliated with? + −
We’re not affiliated with any single denomination. Instead, we partner with families and churches from various denominational backgrounds who share our core belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that faith in Him is necessary for salvation. Our supporting churches represent different traditions, and we welcome families from across the body of Christ who desire a Christ-centered education for their children.
How do you integrate faith into academics? + −
Biblical truth isn’t something we add on to our day; it’s the foundation of how we approach every subject. In science, students explore the wonders of God’s creation. In history, they examine God’s hand in human events. In math, they see the order and beauty of God’s design. In literature, they learn to evaluate ideas through the lens of Scripture.
Beyond curriculum integration, students participate in weekly chapel services, daily Bible classes, and regular opportunities for service and outreach. Our goal isn’t just to teach students about the Bible, but to help them develop a durable faith that equips them to navigate an ever-changing culture with wisdom and conviction.
What is your Statement of Faith? + −
Our philosophy is grounded in several core beliefs: We affirm that God is the Creator and source of all truth. We believe the Bible is God’s inspired and indisputable revelation. We believe Jesus Christ is God’s Son, through whom believers are redeemed from sin and death. And the Holy Spirit enables Christians to understand truth and live in obedience to Christ’s Lordship.
Admissions & Enrollment
When can I apply for my child to attend WCS? + −
Applications for current families are due by February 28 for the following school year. For new families, fall semester applications typically open in the fall for the next academic year. If you’re new to the area or interested in spring enrollment, contact our admissions office at admissions@waynechristian.org or call 919-735-5605 ext. 127.
What’s involved in the admissions process? + −
We’ve designed our admissions process to get to know your family and help you determine if WCS is the right fit for you. Here’s what to expect:
- Visit – We encourage (but don’t require) a campus tour to see our school in action
- Application – Submit your application with required documents, including previous school records, birth certificate, pastoral and teacher recommendations, and a $50 application fee
- Testing – Students in grades 1-12 take a 90-minute placement test in reading, writing, and math
- Interview – If the admissions committee moves forward, you’ll meet with an administrator to discuss your family’s needs and ensure philosophical compatibility
Do you accept all applicants? + −
While we would love to accept everyone who applies, limited space means we can’t always accommodate all families. Applicants who meet our criteria but don’t have an available seat are placed in our waiting pool and offered admission when space becomes available. All families receive written notification of their acceptance, non-acceptance, or placement in the waiting pool.
What if my child has learning differences? + −
Our SOAR Support Center offers personalized support to students with diverse learning needs. We offer multiple tiers of support, including reading and math resource classes, tutoring options, and customized service plans tailored to meet your needs. When you apply, please include all educational and diagnostic testing so we can determine if we’re equipped to meet your child’s specific needs. We want to partner with you to determine whether WCS can provide the support your student requires.
Academic Programs
What curriculum do you use? + −
We use a college preparatory curriculum designed to prepare students for success in higher education and beyond. Our academic program includes core subjects like Bible, math, English, science, and history, along with enrichment courses in music, art, PE, technology, and more. In high school, students can choose from College Preparatory, Honors, and Advanced Honors tracks, as well as dual enrollment opportunities through Judson College at Southeastern and Wayne Community College.
How do you handle technology in the classroom? + −
Technology should enhance learning, not replace it. Our students use Chromebooks to access educational resources, Google Classroom, and collaborative tools. High school students are assigned Chromebooks on a 1:1 basis, which they use both at school and at home. All school-managed Chromebooks are monitored using GoGuardian for safety. Each classroom is equipped with either a Mimeo smart board or a Boxlight interactive flat-panel display.
What about students who need extra academic support? + −
Through our SOAR Support Center, we offer individualized instruction in small group settings to students who require additional support. We offer reading and math resource classes, tutoring options, and personalized service plans tailored to meet your needs. Our goal is to nurture each student’s unique potential and equip them with the skills and confidence to thrive academically.
Do you offer advanced courses? + −
Yes! We offer Honors and Advanced Honors courses for students who want to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework. High school students can also earn college credit through dual enrollment partnerships with Judson College at Southeastern and Wayne Community College. We encourage students to take ownership of their education and pursue courses that they’re passionate about, whether in STEM, the humanities, the arts, or other areas.
Tuition & Financial Assistance
How much is tuition? + −
Tuition for the 2025-2026 school year is $9,800. This covers instruction across all grade levels. A $300 tuition deposit is due upon acceptance to confirm your commitment. Tuition can be paid annually, by semester, or through monthly payments from August through May.
Are there additional costs beyond tuition? + −
Some services are not included in tuition but can be added to your monthly statement, including extended care options (morning, afternoon, or in-service days), athletic participation fees, and e-books for certain subjects. Please contact your building principal for specific details regarding additional costs.
Do you offer financial assistance? + −
Absolutely! We want to make Christian education accessible to families who desire a partnership with us. First, we encourage all families to apply for the NC Opportunity Scholarship, a state-funded grant of up to $7,400 based on income. Applications typically open in February at ncseaa.edu.
In addition to the state scholarship, WCS offers tuition assistance to families who demonstrate financial need. We partner with FACTS Grant & Aid, a third-party company, to review applications and make recommendations. Our WCS Tuition Assistance Team then makes final award decisions. Let’s work together to make this possible for your family!
Student Life & Community
What’s the typical class size? + −
Elementary classes typically have 20-23 students, with three classes per grade level. Once students reach middle and high school, class sizes vary depending on the course; however, we maintain small enough classes to ensure that every student is known and supported by their teachers.
What athletics do you offer? + −
We offer eleven sports for middle and high school students: football, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross country, swimming, golf, and cheerleading. About 85% of our high school students participate in at least one sport during the school year. The bonds created between students on our teams are a special part of life at WCS.
What about fine arts opportunities? + −
We offer a growing fine arts program where students learn to use their talents to worship the Lord. Music and art education begins in kindergarten with weekly classes and continues through middle and high school via electives and extracurricular activities. Students can participate in the praise team, choir, theater productions, visual arts classes, and various competitions and shows throughout the year.
How do you handle discipline and character development? + −
We teach students that their identity is found in Jesus Christ and intentionally guide them in developing a Biblical worldview. Our character development initiatives focus on Biblical values, building positive friendships, preventing bullying, and applying Scripture to real-life situations. We aim to create a culture of respect where students become young men and women of integrity.
When discipline is needed, we approach it with grace and truth, partnering with parents to address concerns. Our goal is always restoration and growth, not just correction.
What’s a typical school day like? + −
School begins at 7:45 AM and dismisses at 3:00 PM. Students participate in core academic classes, specials (like PE, art, music, or library), and have time for lunch and recess (elementary) or breaks between classes (middle/high school). High school students also have study halls and elective periods built into their schedules.
Spiritual Life
How often do students have chapel? + −
All students participate in weekly chapel services where the entire student body worships together. High school students also take on leadership roles in planning and leading various aspects of these services. In addition to the chapel, students participate in daily Bible classes tailored to their grade level.
Do you require families to attend church? + −
While we don’t mandate church attendance, we do ask for a pastoral recommendation as part of the application process. Our mission is to partner with parents and churches. This partnership works best when families are actively involved in a local church community. We believe spiritual formation happens best when home, church, and school are aligned in pointing children toward Christ.
What service opportunities are available? + −
Throughout the year, students participate in various outreach projects and service opportunities. These hands-on experiences help students put their faith into action and discover how God has gifted them to serve others. Specific opportunities vary by grade level and season, but we’re always looking for ways to help students make a positive impact in their community for Christ.

Do you provide before and after-school care? + −
